Description

It is a common plant of dry meadows. It is widespread throughout Europe and all the regions of the Mediterranean, but it can also be found in the Americas. In folk medicine, the herb and root of the plant are used. Because it contains tannins, it is useful in tea blends as an astringent and to help with colds. Homeopathic preparations are used for chronic skin problems, cough, sore throat and bladder inflammation, as well as for airway inflammation and impaired digestion. It is an edible plant. Young leaves (before flowering) are consumed fresh as a salad, the rest of the plant should be boiled because they are stringy. As it is almost nutrient free, it is recommended in diets.
