A species of shrub lichen widespread in many temperate mountain forests throughout the northern hemisphere, including parts of France, Portugal, Spain, North America, and much of Central Europe.

Description

It appears mainly on the branches and trunks of oak trees, but often also on the bark of other deciduous and coniferous trees, such as fir and pine. It is dry green to greenish white, and wet it is dark olive green to yellowish green. The type is used in modern perfumery.
