Description

It grows to a height of 20 to 60 cm. It is a sub-Mediterranean species occurring from the lowlands to the Montana belt, in oak forests, among moist shrubs, also in vineyards and robinia stands. It is easily identifiable by the large, bright orange to red papery covering over its fruit, which resembles paper lanterns. The plant is used for dry bouquets in arranging.
