Description

The purple flowers are grouped in 1-1.5 cm wide baskets, which are concentrated at the top of the winged, very prickly stem. It is simple or only branched at the top. Stiff leaves are lichopernate, narrowed into a stalk. They are divided into serrated cloths ending in thorns. The leaves are green above and densely white hairy below. The baskets are small, the flowers have wreaths of different lengths. It grows in swamps, wet meadows and swamps from the lowlands to the Montana belt.
