Description

It is a dioecious plant up to 40 cm high, which most often thrives in deciduous and mixed forests. It has a creeping rhizome. The stem is quadrangular and has a scaly leaf at the bottom. Many male flowers are in globular inflorescences, and 1 to 2 female flowers are on a long stalk at the apex of the upper leaves. The fresh plant is poisonous, and the dried herb is used in folk medicine as a tea and helps against menstrual problems. It is also used for lack of appetite, intestinal and stomach disorders, and against rheumatism.
