Description

Its ground leaves form a leaf rosette, and a few leaves also embrace its stem. At the top of the stem, a cylindrical inflorescence develops, formed by purple-red, purple or pink flowers. The upper petals stick together - they form a helmet. The inner petals of the helmet are adorned with green veins. The lower petal, the honey lip, is wider than it is long. The white band in the middle of it is sprinkled with red spots. It is widespread almost all over Slovenia, with the exception of its extreme northwestern part. It grows on dry grasslands and slopes from the lowlands to the Montana belt. It is protected and listed on the Red List of Endangered Plants.
