Description
Stems 7 to 35 cm high are leafy with alternately arranged, 2 to 4 mm wide and 10 to 20 mm long leaves. It has no developed ground leaf rosette. The flowers are blue, reddish or purple, rarely white, and are collected in inflorescences that drive at the top of the stem, and usually contain more than 10 flowers. Common milkwort thrive best on acidic and nitrogen-rich soils such as dry meadows and pastures and light forests. In traditional folk medicine, the infusion of common milkwort was given to breastfeeding mothers as it was supposed to help lactation.
