Description

Typha latifolia (broadleaf cattail, bulrush, common bulrush, common cattail, cat-o'-nine-tails, great reedmace, cooper's reed, cumbungi) is a perennial herbaceous plant in the genus Typha. It grows in swamps, ditches and banks of stagnant waters. The hollow stem is leafy at the base with upright, protruding blue-green leaves. At the top is a narrow male inflorescence, beneath which is a cigar-shaped female inflorescence. Both are brown and there is no space between them.
