Description
The Canadian goldenrod is an invasive foreign species in Slovenia. It originates from North America, Canada. It has been observed in Europe since the end of the 17th century. The first data for Slovenia is from the middle of the 19th century. In Slovenia there is also an autochthonous S. virgaurea (European goldenrod).
Herbaceous perennial with leafy stem, on top of luxurious yellow inflorescences, grows in very dense stands. Also used as an ornamental plant, especially in beekeeping.
Habitats: along roads and railways and other ruderal towns, abandoned fields, forest edges, water banks.
