Description
Black elder is a shrub with white inflorescences, the fruits are black berries. The flowers are eaten fresh as an addition to various dishes, dried are used for teas. We produce alcoholic beverages from black elder flowers. Flowers and fruits have a wide range of health benefits. Ripe fruits are rich in anthocyanins and other substances with antioxidant properties. Flowers and fruits have high concentrations of antioxidants.
It has a shallow root system from which root shoots grow. The bark is gray and yellowish brown, the surface of the bark is often rough.
It is found throughout Europe, as well as western and central Asia, as well as North America.
