Description

The strong, straight stem of the glutinous sage is blunt quadrangular and unbranched. In the lower part it is almost bare, in the upper part and in the flower region it is densely glandular-hairy and therefore sticky to the touch. It is leafy with large, pointed, stalked arrow-shaped leaves with an irregularly serrated edge. In the upper part of the stem, large, 3 to 4.5 cm long, pale yellow flowers with a red pattern on the lower lip form apparent floral vertebrae. Glutinous sage grows on fresh, nitrogen-rich soils sheltered by trees or shrubs in moderately warm locations. The species is common and widespread in Slovenia.
