Description
It belongs to the fern family. The rhizome of the common polypodye is harvested in the autumn for medicinal purposes. The rhizome crawls on the ground and has scales. It grows on shady rocks in forests, from the lowlands to the subalpine belt. It tastes sweet first, then bitter. It also helps with lack of appetite and constipation. Common polypody is an ingredient in tea blends for liver, bile and blood cleansing. The drug slightly accelerates the excretion of bile and also helps with jaundice (pernicious).
Recently, it has also been established as an ornamental plant for cutting, garden beams, larger troughs and containers that can also be used as individual attractive plantings (solitaires).
